About Recipients

Every Labor Day weekend, about 150 “Angels”—children of incarcerated parents—attend Camp Agape, sponsored by Camp Agape Hawaii. The camp first started in 2005 and stems from a mission to share God’s love with children whose parents are in prison. “Agape” love is always the theme at the camp, as volunteers and junior mentors strive to demonstrate the love of Christ to the camp attendees. Camp Agape is an annual, four-day event filled with an intentional series of activities and events that facilitate the sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through love, trust, forgiveness and hope.

This Labor Day weekend 2015 marks our Tenth Camp Agape!

Camp Agape includes activities that children would expect to see at a typical youth camp, such as surfing, archery, beach time, games, making crafts, participating in skills and one-on-one mentoring.

As our resources grow, we will be able to provide more activities and events throughout the year that keep the children connected with their mentors who love and encourage them.  We also partner other agencies and organizations that match our Angels with mentors to encourage them and build friendships with them.

Camp Agape has helped over 150 children in 2014 with food, clothing, and counseling services.  Your donation will help these keiki get the emotional and financial support necessary to get through an incredibly difficult time in their lives.

In the United States, currently there are more than 800,000 incarcerated parents that have more than 1,800,000 children who are minors.  In Hawaii, the child of an incarcerated parent is fifty percent more likely to be incarcerated as well.  These statistics continue to increase and the role of Camp Agape is to reach these children and their parents - to see whole families transformed by God's unconditional love.

Camp Agape is free for every attendee; every child receives all the materials and supplies he or she needs during the course of the camp.  We cannot do this alone so we ask for your help by partnering with us financially at any level you can.

Honolulu Habitat is modeled as a self-help housing program. It is not a give awayprogram, but rather a joint venture in which those who benefit from the housing ministry are involved in the work at various levels. Each homeowner family is required to invest 500 “sweat equity” hours into the construction of their home and other families’ homes. This reduces the cost of the house, increases the pride of ownership among family members, and generates stronger relationships in the community.

Esther and Pastor Brad’s Ka Puni Ohana (KPO) ministry has focused on serving birth, foster (resource) and adoptive children and their families - often referred to as "orphan ministries" - with most of their work being with the birth families of children in the foster care system or with those who are at-risk of going into foster care. Through their ministry they’ve developed a network of families, each with their own interests and expertise, who support each other through the legal and child support enforcement systems as well as daily family life. KPO also helps churches/pastors begin and maintain orphan ministries within their own congregations so they can serve their local communities.
